The objective of this research is to investigate the cycles
proposal, into the context of practice, regarding the
heterogeneity that refered to the performance of the
students. As theoretical references, Ball and Bowe (the
policy cycle approach) were used and also national authors,
who have researched the cycles` school in Brazil, such as
Sá Barreto, Gomes, and Mainardes, among others. We
investigated the day life of a school in the city of
Casimiro de Abreu, State of Rio de Janeiro, considered
a reference school. The analysis was based on the
observation of a teacher in class, interviews and
documents. The researched practice showed possibilities of
effective attending to the heterogeneity of the students in
the cycles` school. Data revealed the importance of
planning different activities, grouping students based on
different levels, using didactic strategies with emphasis
in art and music, using diagnostic evaluation and
pedagogical support.
