The main objective of the study is to evaluate, in the
competitive and collaborative spaces of the bank industry
of Brazil, the impacts in the performance of the
institutions, current of the use of collective strategies
(Astley & Fombrun, 1983),simultaneously with competitive
strategies (Miles & Snow, 1978), intentional (or not).
For so much, preexistent database was used in the
Department of Administration of PUC/RJ on the national
financial industry, constituted to make possible previous
research (Almeida, 1998), including 45 of the 50 larger
banks in operation in 1996,about 98% of the market-share
(Ranking FGV of Banks of 1997). It was not possible
to observe the dependence of the collective strategies in
relation to the competitive strategies. Finally, at least
an integrated strategic pair of better adjustment Strategy-
Environment presented the largest performance average for
the respective competitive type.
