We live in a time of crisis and urgently need new ways to guarantee the life of all that exists on this planet. The school is a fundamental area in forming individuals who are committed to life on Earth and the Arts within that process presents an enormous potential to break paradigms. The initial motivation of this thesis relates to the researcher s teaching practice, acting as an art educator in schools located in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro when he sought to understand the socio environmental conception of youth in the eighth grade of an elementary public school located in the municipality the Rio das Ostras / RJ - Brazil. Initially a study on the paths tread by Environmental Education and Art Education in recent decades among us. He leaned on qualitative approaches, configuring it as a case study. Used as tools for data collection: a questionnaire, drawings and photographs produced by the students. Upon analyzing the responses and visual production of the students, we could conclude that students demonstrated openness and interest in proposals related to the socio environmental issue. The results point to the importance of art, as a way to rethink the relevance of environmental education to be effectively included in the educational process of students and in teachers training.
